Culligan offers a 'lifetime' warranty on their softener resin beds but then makes exceptions for what are essentially normal water conditons. I live alone and my usage obviously was much less than average and yet my Culligan resin bed lasted less than 7 years (instead of the 7-9 they claim or the 14-16 of other companies in this area) and according to their interpretation of the warranty it was essentially void the moment I turned on my faucet. They cited in their list of exceptions the presence of chlorine and chloramines which are common treatment chemicals added to municipal water.

I've been quoted prices for resin replacement at $235.00 and between $300.00-350.00. These quotes came from the same Culligan dealer. I'm reluctant to do this with Culligan because I don't want their inferior resin again but I'm finding that other dealers don't want to work on Culligan units.

They use this warranty to get customers in and use it to bolster an inferior product they have no intention of backing. It's a big ripoff and you'd do much better elsewhere.

Monetary Loss: $2.

Location: Lincoln, Nebraska

Culligan has exceptions for our water as well. It's interesting to watch them making up exceptions AS they SPEAK.

They have a very poor reputation.

I am furious that we paid for a unit with a lifetime warranty and they won't honor their warranty. Will update this review as we work with them.

Re: Tyler the Culligan Installer.

In Canada, Culligan offers a lifetime warranty on the tanks and resin for all its current models, and a number of older models. Exceptions being mixed bed units (which may not be available in the US), as carbon is a sacrificial media. A warranty is voided if a non-Culligan person (such as the customer, a plumber, a contractor) services or moves the unit.

As for the resin... Culligan does not manufacture it, and hasn't in some time. It purchases it from Lanxess and Sybron.

change the resin yourself it is easy dump the tank out put in about 10 lbs of gravel number 2 and put in your resin next time you have a service tech at your house watch what he does and ask questions softeners are really easy to fix and after you have your new resin in you can use a hose to get the outlet manifold back in the tank with the water pressure

Culligan systems, like most single tank softeners, regenerate with hard water. This shortens the life of resins.

Resin manufactures offer a one-year warranty on their products when sold to national brand dealers like Culligan, Rainsoft and Kinetico.

Twin-tank system regenerate with treated water so they will last longer.

Kinetico offers 10 years on resins and seven if the water is chlorinated. A carbon filter adequate to remove the chemical is needed to protect the resins.

That's what you get with Culligan products that are now made in China. Their large plant in Northbrook, IL, has been closed and demolished. All they have is a small sales and engineering office in Chicago.

Rainsoft's warranty on resis is void is there is any iron in the water coming into the filter. You do not get this info until the unit is installed and you have read the owner's manual.

Rainsoft gives a lifetime guarentee on its resin. The guarentee is only on 'manufadturers defects'. So the resin contains carbon and a formula known only to Rainsoft and Nasa according to the salesman.

I wonder how Rainsoft can guarentee against maunufacturers defect of carbon. Rainsoft and it seem Culligan are complete liars and rip off artists.

AND TO THE GUY WITH THE MK100 WHOS TANK RUPTURED THE MK100 CAME ON A TRIPLE HULL TANK THAT HAS A LIFETIME WARRANTY BUT...THE RESIN IN THE TANK IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY CULLIGAN WILL REPLACE THE TANK FOR FREE BUT YOU HAVE TO BUY THE NEW RESIN FOR IT...BUT BEING THAT ITS A MK 100 MAY NOT WANT TO PUT MONEY INTO IT BUT RATHER BUY A NEW ONE OR LEASE ONE THAT WAY YOU DONT PAY FOR THE MAITNENCE

to the guy who said resin in a rain soft does not go bad because they put a carbon tank in front to remove ther chlorine you forgot to add one VERY IMPORTANT FACT carbon is almost twice as much as resin per cubic foot unless your using momma poppa po dunk carbon that will only float and eventully come out of the drain i do service and instals for culligan in the tampa bay area and i throw away atleast 5-6 rainsofts per month and some of the instalations i have come across that were done by rainsoft are down right funny as for the lady complaining about being charged a service call when he friend who rents doesnt the reason for this is simple you OWN YOUR SYSTEM culligan owns your friends she pays monthly and if she stops paying for her lease they WILL REMOVE IT

Culligans is advertising that water softeners last only five years. Most will last more than 25 years!

If you allow this company to replace your GOOD unit with one of theirs - you will be trapped into buying one of their units every five years.

The costs will never cease! :(

I recently had my Mark 100 Mineral tank rupture from the bottom and push the triple hull tank up until it broke the water lines flooding my basement. When i called Culligan to find out why this happened in an 10 year old system they pushed me off to a local dealer who said they cant help me because i didn't purchase it from them.

i cant even get a quote to replace the tank.

i think i am better off going for a less expensive system and replacing it every 5 years. what is the life expectancy of these units?

Guest

there has never been a lifetime warranty on the resin. all resin needs to be rebedded after 5 to 15 years depending on the raw water coming in.

lifetime warranty is only on the gold series softner tank not the bed inside it. also, culligan makes its own resin and has been doing so since emmet culligan invented the softning process using green sand.

this complaint is from several years ago, but I still have a bad taste in my mouth over culligan and when I saw this forum had to add my 2 cents. I moved into a new home about 7 years ago, and the iron content in the water was very high.

I purchased their absolute top of the line product, I'm thinking the cost was around $ 3500. They even wrote me a letter before purchase guaranteeing rust free if I bought the product. I did, and of course, result was not rust free. I asked them for a refund and they refused.

I then contacted the better business bureau and the State of Ohio Attorney General's office with the proof of rust free guarantee. Culligan's reply was a complete lie. They said I refused to purchase a needed filter. The letter I got back from the Attorney General was because I did not purchase filter the case was closed and if I wished to pursue further I had to contact my own attorney.

The lie was that I had bought the filter. I even had the receipt to prove the filter had been purchased at the time of installation. Anyhow, my husband and I eventually sold the home, but I still have anger issues over their treatment. Oh, and 1 other thing, they charged me a service call for each visit.

My friend had only rented instead of purchased and got no service call charge.

I asked Culligan why and they said it came as part of the package when renting, not when buying. Never buy from Culligan!!

That's why Rainsoft dealers include a whole-house carbon tank in front of the softener...to remove the chlorine that breaks down the resin.

Guest

We have a ten year warranty on our tank and it started leaking. The dopey dealer could not explain it and refused to warranty it. Avoid culligan especially in Austin Texas

Guest

It does not matter what a warranty is for, they all have to exeptions. Chlorine is hard on everything.

Municiple water sucks and thats why I live right outside the city and refuse to hook to the city line. I have had a Culligan system at my house for almost 17 years and it works great.

Everyone one in a while something needs done but thats like a car. Also, a friend of mine bought a lowes unit and after about 15 months she had to replace it.

Guest

All resins do come from Dow. If you buy a system on price, they will all breakdown in chlorine especially.

Read the warranties very closely, this is where you will find the difference. If the warranty is less than a Lifetime or has exceptions, then do not buy it.

RainSoft is the only warranty that I know of that has no exceptions. They spend the extra on their resin to ensure it does not break down in normal water conditions that includes high levels of chlorine that are prevalent in municipally treated water everywhere.

isn't it funny how the very few people who have a problem always make it to the headlines, but all those customers over the past 70 + years of culligan that are satisfied don't. lack of education goes a long way and i don't mean the college or university type of education.

my customers are extremely happy and the ones that have had problems, i look after their concerns. yes there is the odd time that somehting has to be outsourced and then it is not guarnateed. for those of you who believe what this aforementioned person said, please look at the history of the company and the rep they were dealing with. i have built my business clientile on honesty and solving the customers problems.

oh by the way, i did work for the competitor for years and i was starving because they outsourced all the problems. yes ik do work for culligan in canada
