Culligan warranty is a deceptive sham

Culligan offers a 'lifetime' warranty on their softener resin beds but then makes exceptions for what are essentially normal water conditons. I live alone and my usage obviously was much less than average and yet my Culligan resin bed lasted less than 7 years (instead of the 7-9 they claim or the 14-16 of other companies in this area) and according to their interpretation of the warranty it was essentially void the moment I turned on my faucet. They cited in their list of exceptions the presence of chlorine and chloramines which are common treatment chemicals added to municipal water.

I've been quoted prices for resin replacement at $235.00 and between $300.00-350.00. These quotes came from the same Culligan dealer. I'm reluctant to do this with Culligan because I don't want their inferior resin again but I'm finding that other dealers don't want to work on Culligan units.

They use this warranty to get customers in and use it to bolster an inferior product they have no intention of backing. It's a big ripoff and you'd do much better elsewhere.

Culligan has exceptions for our water as well. It's interesting to watch them making up exceptions AS they SPEAK.

They have a very poor reputation.

I am furious that we paid for a unit with a lifetime warranty and they won't honor their warranty. Will update this review as we work with them.

Re: Tyler the Culligan Installer.

In Canada, Culligan offers a lifetime warranty on the tanks and resin for all its current models, and a number of older models. Exceptions being mixed bed units (which may not be available in the US), as carbon is a sacrificial media. A warranty is voided if a non-Culligan person (such as the customer, a plumber, a contractor) services or moves the unit.

As for the resin... Culligan does not manufacture it, and hasn't in some time. It purchases it from Lanxess and Sybron.

Guest

change the resin yourself it is easy dump the tank out put in about 10 lbs of gravel number 2 and put in your resin next time you have a service tech at your house watch what he does and ask questions softeners are really easy to fix and after you have your new resin in you can use a hose to get the outlet manifold back in the tank with the water pressure

Guest

Culligan systems, like most single tank softeners, regenerate with hard water. This shortens the life of resins.

Resin manufactures offer a one-year warranty on their products when sold to national brand dealers like Culligan, Rainsoft and Kinetico.

Twin-tank system regenerate with treated water so they will last longer.

Kinetico offers 10 years on resins and seven if the water is chlorinated. A carbon filter adequate to remove the chemical is needed to protect the resins.

Guest

That's what you get with Culligan products that are now made in China. Their large plant in Northbrook, IL, has been closed and demolished. All they have is a small sales and engineering office in Chicago.

Guest

Rainsoft's warranty on resis is void is there is any iron in the water coming into the filter. You do not get this info until the unit is installed and you have read the owner's manual.

Rainsoft gives a lifetime guarentee on its resin. The guarentee is only on 'manufadturers defects'. So the resin contains carbon and a formula known only to Rainsoft and Nasa according to the salesman.

I wonder how Rainsoft can guarentee against maunufacturers defect of carbon. Rainsoft and it seem Culligan are complete liars and rip off artists.

Oooh, too bad

Well, what he should be ticked about is the fact that he should have spoke with several companies prior to settling with one, if so, he then should have spoke to neighbors regarding their water; Also, he needs to be aware that the contaminents of yesterday or totally different than what is in the water today; He purchased the home from someone, he should have talked to them prior to moving in about the hardness of his water; If this individual is using city water, it is highly likely. In certain areas, it is mandated that a softner or a super filter is used. I feel that this person is trying to place blame due to the fact that he did not know the facts. If rebedding occurs within in the first 3-4 years of your unit, it is undoubtedly your water. And if the water is that bad, imagine what he is drinking.

Beware of Culligan Finance in AL

After purchasing a water softner system and being offered 1 year free financing I received billing statements from both Culligan Finance in AL and IL. I put down $1000. The company in IL showed the money down and the one in AL did not. Upon calling the local office I was told that I qualified for the 1 year free financing which would be through Culligan Finance in AL. I phoned them (AL) to tell them about the $1000 down that they did not show. The rude girl I spoke to more or less told me that I paid that $1000 to the other company not them and that I owed them the total amount. As I tried to explain she asked me if I thought I was going to get it free? I told her that I would yank the system out to which she indicated that I could not as I only had 3 days to back out. Bottom line I complained to the local office, sent a check for balance as I was now afraid not to. But how rude and if the companies are all affiliated how could my deposit not be used towards the balance. Beware of the free financing offer!

Culligan Of Scottville MI

Last year my company authorized us to contact culligan to supply our office with bottled water. After several calls to culligan and still no service I went into the store. The lady in the store ignored me for approx 10min. I finally walked out. More recently my husband and I decided to get a water softner installed into our home. We called culligan and were told we would be contacted tomorrow to schedule a water test. A week later no call. We went to another company and were promptly serviced. Two days after the other company installed our new water softner culligan finally called to scheduled our water test. I told them thanks but no thanks.

Culligan is billing for discontinued service

Culligan, PO Box 5277, Carol Stream, IL, is billing me for service that they do not provide. I used to have a water softener exchange service with them. The local Culligan dealer decided to stop providing that service as of November 30, 2006. However the Carol Stream, IL Culligan office has continued to bill me, and they have just sent a notice threatening to send my account to a collections agency. My written complaints to them have gone unanswered (one of which I sent certified mail so I have proof of delivery). I have also just filed a complaint with the BBB, but since their system says neither of the other complaints they have had against that office have been responded to I don't expect a response in my case either.

Culligan water conditioning service

Culligan charged me for service on a house I no longer own for service I discontinued two months ago. Culligan stated that I signed a 6-month contract, however there are two checked boxes. One states that service is provided month to month and one month notice is required for change of service. The other box does state the term as 6 months, so I suppose I legally have no recourse. I also had no choice. When I signed up for Culligan I said I was selling the house – I needed it so the water would not be black and sulfur smelling. No one told me a 6-month contract was required. And why should it be? What’s the skin off their nose? They charged me $75 for installation – now they’ll no doubt be charging the new owners the same. I think their business practices stink.

Culligan is awful. They stopped servicing because I missed a payment - but for 6 months I was paying each month, and for 6 months they were not coming out.

I finaly got the 6 months 'credited' (over $300) but that left a credit in my favor. After they once again blew off my service and never showed. I demanded my $111 back that I overpayed, which they agreed to, and of course they never sent it.

I was forced to file with the BBB - and would you belive the *** bags at culligan lied on the BBB response, and they said they credited me in error..which is clearly retaliation. DON'T WORK WITH CULLIGAN.

We went with Greco & Haynes and my water is even drinkable now, we were even told that Culligan's treatments don't even last the month.

Culligan Water Conditioning has mistreated me

Moved in new house in 1987. Lots of rust in water. Called Culligan. They tested water and recommended their exchange tank rental unit. Despite acidity recomended no treatment of acidity. Over years had far too many hot water heaters and new elements. Always lots of rust in heater (and some spots on clothes). They tested again...said all was fine; said I had right equipment. Pipes started leaking. Plumber felt it might be from acid in water. Culligan came out--now they say I really need neutralizer, not their softener. They give estimate. Call Aqua Science. They agree I need neutralizer, but indicate its output will be hard so a softener is needed. Give estimate for both less than Culligan's neutralizer! Aqua Science installs; I cancel Culligan. They keep sending bill for one further year of service. I call them; they tell me they adjusted it for only two months--guy tells me I am reading billing date wrong. So now they want two months of money for a service that was not provided at all this year. Retrospect: they never dealt with my problem Recommend: go to any other vender...get better service at a cheaper price.,

If you were renting the system the contract propbably stated that you were liable for so many months of service whether you cancel or not!

CULLIGAN WATER ALLOWED FELON INTO MY HOME

Culligan Water has hired and allowed a man convicted of child endangerment and felony methamphetamine and marijuana sales(went to prison for it!) into my home. I trusted that they would be someone trustworthy and safe.

I allowed him to come to my home, access to garage and back yard...during after school hours when i was at work and my children were home. Culligan in NO WAY informed local customers or protected our homes and children. When i called to complain and ask that others be at least warned and given the option of asking for someone else...my concerns were blown off. I will never use or trust culligan again.

and i am trying to warn everyone...stay away from culligan, they dont have the cutstomers best interest in mind!!!

I work for a competitor of Culligan, we had to pass FULL background checks before being employed. NO convictions were allowed, no matter how minor.

Guest

Did he hurt you or rip you off?How did you find out?

Guest

So what about what he did in his past!!! Did he steal from you?

Abuse your kids? do *** on your property? sell *** to your kids? you have too much time on your hands why dont you spend some of it EDUCATING YOURSELF on the truths of the law and success rate of felons that are given the chance to work after they are out!!

Why dont you support that instead of trying to keep them on the streets commiting more crimes or selling more *** just to have a roof, clothes and food!!

Shallow people make me ill! :(

Guest

One of the men convicted of the "Brown's Chicken Murders" in Chicago was an appliance repair man for years while the murders were unsolved. Helped murder 8 people in a restaurant and spent his days going to people's homes and fixing things. Feel better now?

Guest

All the charges sound like they were from one incident.

Sounds like he may have been dealin *** which is very bad indeed, and most hard drug users also smoke pot, so there are your two drug charges. And if he had any children that lived in the house he got hit with child endangerment.

You are overreacting quite a lot! If he were a convicted ***, or murderer than you might have a leg to stand on. In this case you are plain wrong. As the poster said above, the man made mistakes, went jail for it, got an honest job and is trying to move on with his life. Let him do so.

Sounds like the guy has paid his debt..

Culligan over charged me

Well that was fun. I just called Culligan because I had the system removed on 5/5 and they sent me a bill for all of May. They said that's how they bill, for the whole month. I said but I haven't had it for the whole month and they said they require a 30 day notice. I said they did not tell me that when I talked to them. I told them I wanted to have it taken out and they said sure. They gave me times for the following week and I picked one and that was it. They said well it's on the back of your contract which I haven't seen it 4 and a half years. Oh well, too bad. Now I have to pay for the whole month or guess who's credit will get screwed up. Don't buy anything from Culligan.

Culligan charged me but didn't fix the problem

I have been dealing with "orange" rusty water since I called Culligan 4 months ago. They came twice and did not fix my water conditioner. The service man admitted what he installed the first time didn't work, never offered to do a water test. I have had 3 new tanks installed since and have given up on Culligan. They want me to pay them $500 for trying and want to keep coming back until they succeed. They are now mad at me because my experience has been so bad I have given up on them and tried something else. The person who handled my complaint blamed it on me for not reporting back to them. I am taking pictures of my orange tub, toilet and laundry for small claims court. Thanks Culligan man.

I have been dealing with Culligan for 10 years. I have five thousand dollars tied up in a Culligan Softener and a Culligan Super S that is suppost to be the top of the line.

I too am dealing with numerous service calls from almost the installation day. I even said 2 months after the installation that the product was defective and I wanted it replaced! No such luck. They just wanted the warranty to run out and me to have to pay for service calls.

Along with my initial investment I have spent thousands of dollars in service calls only to call them back two weeks later. We have well water, and their service rep said " it has to be expected with your type of water".....well why did they sell me a product that was suppost to take care of it? If it was to be expected why did I bother buying two product that were suppost to take care of the water problem. If you have well water with rust and iron do not buy any of the systems that Culligan recommends...it will be a waste of your money!

Their warranty Sucks! Their product Sucks!

That is ashame we have a culligan system and it seems to work fine. The system gets serviced by culligan and we have not had any problems.

Culligan Water Systems Corrosion Problem

Hello I purchased a culligan water neutralizer/UV Light and Reverse Osmosis for under our kitchen sink in our home 9 years ago. Each year, the maintenance on the entire system cost uf $400-$500. There is a travel time fee and the UV light cost $100, the stuff for the neutralizer etc etc. (VERY COSTLY). So after 9 years the neutralizer is leaking from the top. We get a 20 yr veteran of Culligan to come out and take a look and he tells us 'You need a new system'. We ask 'Why can't you just fix the part that is leaking?'. He says 'Oh that is corroded'. We ask 'Why do you make something made of metal if we have water that will corrode it?'. He says 'Oh you will have to ask the engineers who designs it'. Anyway after lots of mumbo jumbo from his mouth, we had two alternatives. Fix the thing for $800 and the corroded parts are not under warranty (of course, why have a warranty on metal parts that corrode?). This quick fix was not guaranteed by the salesman because he said the other metal parts will probably corrode in the future OR GET A WHOLE NEW SYSTEM. We showed hime the glossy brochure we received at our time of purchase 9 years ago that had on the front page 'ENJOY DECADES OF USE WITH YOUR CULLIGAN PRODUCTS'. The quick witted salesman said, oh other people have only gotten 9-10 years out of their neutralizers. It depends on the water YADDA YADDA - remember he has 20+ years sales and knows the script to a tee. Anyway, we dont want culligan in our house any longer. The salesman left us with a leaking neutralizer, didn't offer to repair or anything. STAY AWAY FROM CULLIGAN - THEY ARE COSTLY!!!! WE LEARNED OUR LESSON!!!

Credit fraud

These dorks sold me a great water filter in 1988 which I financed. The loan was done through some part of Beneficial Finance (who sold it to AVCO?)and it was supposed to be a great boost to your credit rating at the time.

Unfortunately, these buffoons apparently never reported it to Transunion,Equifax or Experian (one of them was TRW at that time) and so it doesn't show on my FICO. Consequently, instead of my credit info showing that I've had revolving credit since 1988 (when I bought/financed the unit), a much later date for credit establishment shows.

This alone is responsible for a credit rating that is significantly lower than if they had reported it.
